The YL-MBS13-X is a 48×48×48mm square in ground spotlight with a grille shield, built for narrow-beam uplighting of sculptures, monuments, flagpoles and colonnade bases, with 6° and 15° optics reaching targets 4–8m above grade. CRI 90Ra keeps stone, bronze and painted finishes accurate; DC12-24V suits low-voltage plaza and hotel forecourt circuits. 1. CRI 90Ra at 4–8m throw

 

Bronze patina, sandstone and painted render hold their true colour at 4–8m under 90Ra; 80Ra sources flatten them toward grey. Museums, memorial plazas and hotel forecourts specify on this basis, because the subject is the entire point of the installation.

2. 6° and 15° optics, single-target aiming

 

Narrow optics put light on the sculpture and nothing on the sky above it. Sites with dark-sky conditions or neighbouring residential windows pass sign-off on spill grounds, where a 60° fixture would need shrouding added later.

3. DC12-24V low-voltage circuit

 

Plaza and forecourt schemes with 20+ fixtures run on extra-low voltage, which avoids mains-rated conduit through planted areas and lets landscape crews handle the wiring. Three-year warranty, IP67, 500kg static load - landscape and planted zones only.

The subject is the entire reason the installation exists, yet 80Ra fixtures flatten bronze patina, weathered sandstone and painted render toward grey - the failure is only visible at commissioning, after the concrete is poured. Narrow-Beam Ground Spotlights for Flagpoles, Columns and Colonnade Bases

Uplighting a flagpole or a 6m column with a wide-beam fixture puts most of the output past the target and into the sky, which fails dark-sky ordinances and draws complaints from adjacent residential windows. The 6° and 15° optics keep light on the shaft with minimal spill, avoiding retrofit shrouds. The 48×48mm square trim aligns with plaza paving coursing and colonnade plinth lines rather than cutting across them.

Low-Voltage DC12-24V Fixtures for Hotel Forecourts and Corporate Entrance Plazas

Running mains-voltage circuits through planted forecourt beds requires rated conduit, a licensed electrician for every fixture connection, and re-excavation for any later change. At DC12-24V, a 20-fixture forecourt scheme runs as extra-low voltage, so landscape crews handle the wiring and the layout can be adjusted during planting. Load per fixture is 3W, so 20 units total 60W. IP67, 500kg static load, three-year warranty, landscape and planted zones only.

01.   How do you light a tree with ground lights?

Uplight a tree by placing two or three ground spotlights around its base, aimed up through the canopy from different angles. Two fixtures at roughly 120° apart give dimensional shape; one fixture alone flattens the tree and creates a harsh single shadow. Aim slightly off-centre so light rakes across the trunk texture rather than blasting straight up the middle.

02.  How many ground lights do I need for one tree?

Use one fixture for a small ornamental tree under 3 metres, two for a medium tree of 3–6 metres, and three or more for a mature specimen above 6 metres. Larger canopies need multiple beams to avoid dark voids on the far side. Trees with dense evergreen foliage need more fixtures than open, airy deciduous canopies.

03.  How far from a tree should ground lights be placed?

Set ground lights 0.6 to 1.5 metres from the trunk, increasing the distance as the tree gets larger. Close placement (0.6 m) throws light straight up the trunk for a dramatic silhouette; further placement (1.5 m) lights more of the canopy but with less trunk drama. Leave room for trunk growth - a fixture installed tight to a young tree can be swallowed within a decade.

04.  What wattage do I need for uplighting trees?

For LED fixtures, 3–6W suits small ornamental trees, 9–12W handles medium trees, and 15–24W is appropriate for large mature specimens. Wattage matters less than lumen output and beam angle - a 9W fixture with a 15° beam will out-punch an 18W fixture with a 60° beam on a tall target. Check lumens and beam spread together.

05.  What are LED recessed ground lights?

LED recessed ground lights are sealed fixtures set into the ground or a hard surface so the lens finishes flush with the surrounding grade. The LED source, driver, and optics sit inside a waterproof housing - usually stainless steel, brass, or die-cast aluminium - with only a tempered glass lens and trim ring exposed. They deliver architectural lighting without visible hardware.

06.  How long do LED recessed ground lights last?

Quality LED ground lights are rated for 30,000 to 50,000 hours of operation, roughly 10–15 years at typical dusk-to-dawn use. In practice, the driver and seals usually fail before the LEDs do, which is why housing quality and IP rating matter more than diode specifications. Fixtures with replaceable modules extend usable life considerably.
