YL-MBS12-X is a Φ48mm grille-type LED ground spot light delivering 240lm from a single CREE XTE 3W chip, with 6°/15°/30°/60°/90°/110° optics for uplighting trees, shrubs and ornamental planting. The internal grille keeps the source out of pedestrian sightlines on park trails and greenways. 1. Six beam angles from one housing

 

6°, 15°, 30°, 60°, 90° and 110° optics all fit the same Φ48mm body. A 6° unit reaches a 6m canopy; a 110° unit washes a 1m shrub bed. Specify one SKU for the entire planting scheme and match optics on site as the planting grows.

2. CRI 90Ra on foliage

 

Green leaf reflectance falls in a band where 80Ra sources go grey-olive. At 90Ra, maple, olive and box read as their actual colour under 3000K, which is the difference clients notice on the first evening walk-through.

3. Internal grille on pedestrian routes

 

Park trails and greenways put walkers directly in the beam path. The grille shields the emitter from the horizontal sightline while leaving the upward beam intact - no light loss where it matters, no glare where it doesn't. IP67, 0.5m rubber cable, 500kg static load.

A planting scheme changes: the 1m shrub specified at design becomes a 4m specimen in six years, and a fixed 60° fixture that once washed the bed now spills past the canopy. This Φ48mm housing accepts 6°, 15°, 30°, 60°, 90° and 110° optics on the identical Φ35mm cut-out, so the optic is matched on site and re-matched years later without redrilling paving or disturbing root systems. Public realm uplighting puts pedestrians directly in the beam path, and unshielded fixtures on a park trail generate glare complaints and, in some jurisdictions, fail lighting assessment. The internal grille blocks the emitter across the horizontal sightline while leaving the upward beam intact - no output loss on target, no source visible to walkers. Waterproof Ground Lights for Irrigated Lawns and Automatic Sprinkler Zones

Fixtures in irrigated beds are not splashed - they are submerged, nightly, for the run duration of the sprinkler cycle. An IP65 unit fails within a season in this condition. This model is IP67 rated with a factory-sealed 0.5m rubber cable and no field-cut entry point. Install with a 50–80mm gravel drainage bed beneath the housing so water clears instead of standing. 01.   Where should garden ground spotlights be placed?

Place garden ground spotlights 300–600 mm out from the base of the object you want to light, angled slightly back toward it. Positioning too close creates a hot spot at the base and leaves the top dark; positioning too far washes out the effect. For shrubs and low planting, 300 mm is usually right; for mature trees, move out to 600–900 mm.

02.  How do you install garden ground spotlights?

Installation involves digging the fixture pocket, laying a gravel drainage bed, running low-voltage cable in conduit below spade depth, connecting with waterproof IP68 gel connectors, and backfilling so the lens sits flush with grade. Low-voltage 12V systems can be installed by a competent DIYer, but any 240V mains-voltage system must be wired by a qualified electrician.

03.  Do garden ground spotlights need a transformer?

Yes, 12V and 24V low-voltage ground spotlights require a driver or transformer to step mains voltage down safely. Size the transformer at roughly 20% above the total wattage of the connected fixtures to allow headroom and reduce heat. Mains-voltage 240V fixtures don't need one, but they demand deeper burial, armoured cable, and professional installation.

04.  Are garden ground spotlights safe around plants and roots?

Yes, when installed correctly. LED ground spotlights run cool enough that they won't scorch foliage the way old halogen fixtures could, though leaving 200–300 mm of clearance from leaves is still good practice. When digging near established trees, hand-dig rather than machine-dig to avoid severing structural roots.

05.  What IP rating do waterproof ground lights need?

In-ground lights need a minimum of IP67, and IP68 is strongly recommended for any fixture buried in soil or set into a surface where water pools. IP67 means protection against temporary immersion; IP68 means continuous immersion under pressure. IP65, which is only rain-resistant, is not sufficient for a buried fixture no matter how well drained the site is.

06.  What is the difference between IP67 and IP68 ground lights?

IP67 fixtures survive immersion in one metre of water for 30 minutes, while IP68 fixtures are tested for continuous immersion at a manufacturer-specified depth and duration. For in-ground applications the practical difference is longevity: IP68 housings use better gaskets and potting, so they resist the slow moisture ingress that fogs lenses and corrodes drivers over years.
