Underground lights are commonly used in landscape lighting and other places. When purchasing, it's important to consider several key factors to ensure they meet your needs and perform effectively.

1. Light Source Quality

The light source is the core component of an underground light. First and foremost, consider luminous efficiency. An efficient light source can provide sufficient brightness while consuming less energy. For example, high-quality LED light sources have high luminous efficiency, effectively reducing energy consumption. Secondly, consider light color. Different locations have different requirements for light color. In landscape lighting, warm white light often creates a warm and comfortable atmosphere and is suitable for places like parks and courtyards. Meanwhile, cool white light may be more suitable for places like commercial plazas that require a bright and clear environment. Furthermore, the light source's color rendering index (CRI) is crucial. A high CRI reproduces the colors of objects more realistically. Generally speaking, a CRI above 90 meets the color reproduction requirements for most scenarios.

2. Protection Rating

Underground lights are typically installed below ground level and are exposed to various harsh environmental conditions, such as rain and soil burial. Therefore, the protection rating is crucial. The IP rating is generally expressed using an Ingress Protection (IP) code, such as IP67. The first digit, "6," indicates complete protection against intrusion and dust; the second digit, "7," indicates the lamp can operate normally even when submerged in water under a certain pressure for an indefinite period. Generally, underground lights must meet a minimum IP65 rating to ensure normal operation in humid environments and extend their lifespan.

3. Material and Structure

The material of the lamp body directly affects the durability of underground lights. Common materials include stainless steel and aluminum alloy. Stainless steel is durable, corrosion-resistant, and suitable for various outdoor environments. Aluminum alloy is lightweight and has excellent heat dissipation, extending the lifespan of the light source. In terms of structural design, attention should be paid to the sealing of the lamp. A good sealing structure prevents moisture and dust from entering the lamp and damaging the electronic components. A well-designed structure also facilitates installation and maintenance. For example, an easily disassembled structure facilitates access when replacing the light source or performing repairs.

4. Optical Performance

Optical performance determines the lighting effect of an underground light. The light distribution curve is a key indicator, describing the distribution of light intensity at different angles. Depending on the application scenario, an underground light with an appropriate light distribution curve should be selected. For example, road lighting typically requires a wide-angle light distribution curve to provide uniform road illumination; whereas, for landscape lighting, a narrow-angle light distribution curve may be required to highlight specific objects or areas. Glare control is also crucial. Excessive glare can affect visual quality and even cause eye damage. High-quality underground lights effectively reduce glare through appropriate optical design, such as using hoods and lenses.

5. Electrical Performance

Electrical performance is crucial to the safety and stability of underground lights. Pay attention to the input voltage range of the lamp to ensure it can operate properly under the actual power supply environment. The power factor of the lamp is also a crucial indicator. A high power factor means the lamp uses electricity more efficiently, reducing energy waste. In addition, the lamps should have complete electrical protection functions, such as overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection, short circuit protection, etc., to prevent damage to the lamps or safety accidents under abnormal circumstances.
